The Damien Centre is a welcoming Day time service at Acton Homeless Concern.

We are providing a safe, warm indoor space for people experiencing homelessness or living in hostels. Clients can drop in for breakfast, a light meal in the afternoon or just for a chat and a hot drink. The centre also offers indoor space to read the paper, charge mobiles and use the Wi-Fi.

Typical volunteer duties include:

  • Assisting the kitchen manager and staff with any of the following: preparation of food, setting tables, serving clients, washing up, cleaning after meals and general cleaning duties.
  • Laundry preparation
  • Sorting of donations including clothing / shoes / toiletries etc.

We are looking for volunteers for the afternoon shift to support the centre from Monday to Friday from 2pm-6pm

  • Friendly, approachable, and welcoming manner
  • Good communication and listening skills
  • Ability to engage respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Empathy, patience, and a non-judgemental attitude
  • Reliability and punctuality
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Basic organisational skills
