Are you passionate about supporting people in recovery from drug and alcohol use?

Join our friendly team at BoB Hounslow, a peer-led drop-in service that offers a safe, welcoming space for anyone affected by substance use.

As a volunteer, you’ll be part of a supportive and diverse team helping to run activities, serve refreshments, offer peer support, and contribute to creating a positive, inclusive environment where everyone is treated with respect and dignity. No experience is needed—just compassion, a willingness to get involved, and a commitment to showing up.

We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds, including members of the wider community, but we also recognise that many of our volunteers are in, or have recently left, structured treatment for their own substance use. If you're at the start of your recovery journey and want to give something back in your own time and your own way, BoB might be the place for you. We don’t have ‘clean time’ rules, and we don’t ask for qualifications or a perfect CV. If you’re still in treatment, if you’ve had the occasional relapse, if you’ve never had a paid job, if you struggle with confidence or find structure difficult—we understand, and we welcome you. The only thing we ask is that volunteers don’t attend under the influence of non-prescribed mind-altering substances.

Volunteering with us is a chance to build confidence, be part of a community, and make a real difference. Since 2005, over 3,000 people have volunteered with Build on Belief, most of them with lived experience of substance use. We offer our volunteers travel expenses, a meal during their shift, regular one-to-one support, and access to our in-house training. We also hold an annual volunteer celebration to recognise the amazing contributions our teams make every day. Shifts run from 10:00am to 16:30 on Saturday and Sunday.

What skills do I need?

• Good communication – able to chat with and listen to people from all walks of life
• Empathy and understanding – non-judgmental and supportive of others' recovery journeys
• Teamwork – happy to work alongside staff, volunteers, and service users
• Reliability – able to turn up when expected and be consistent
• Basic organisation – comfortable helping with activities or keeping the space tidy
• Lived experience (optional) – if you’ve experienced addiction and recovery, that’s a bonus, not a requirement
