What do governors do?
Governors attend at least two meetings per term and bring a diverse range of skills, perspectives, and experiences. They are required to visit school for monitoring visits, learning walks and to engage with the school community. Governors follow the 7 Principles of Public Life: Selflessness, Integrity, Objectivity, Accountability, Openness, Honesty, and Leadership, guiding them to act in the public interest with transparency and without personal gain, ensuring trust and proper governance.
How are governors supported?
There is a wide range of training and resources available. Boards will have an induction process tailored to the governor type, school context and current needs and can often arrange a ‘buddy’ or mentor for those new to education and/or governance. Hounslow Governor Services can signpost towards support and offers a comprehensive training package.
