London Borough of Hounslow
London Borough of Hounslow is looking for volunteers to join the governing boards of primary, secondary and special schools in the borough. Do you have the time and skills that could be put to good use in improving outcomes for children in our community?
Every governing board needs a balance and diversity of knowledge, skills and experience. You don't need to be a parent or have a background in education and we provide induction and ongoing training across the academic year.
You need to be aged 18 or over, available to attend 2-3 meetings per term with some background reading, time to visit the school occasionally, and not disqualified under the relevant rules and procedures.
We support schools across Hounslow to find volunteers with various skills and experience such as data analytics, marketing, social branding, wellbeing, creative arts, vocational pathways, career planning and community integration.
As a Governor you would be involved in
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
- Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff; and
- Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent.

Governors are appointed on a termly basis. There might be a screening call with the local authority to determine skills and experience to match with a board. Times required would depend on the individual school, and we can discuss this in a phone call to check availability.
