Job Description:

PrefaceMorn is an integrated dance theatre company that uses puppetry, circus, dance, theatre, and multimedia in its work. The company began in 2007 and closed in 2018 due to family illnesses. After a hiatus, the company is reopening as a CIO and searching for trustees to continue its work as a disability advocate within the performing arts scene. The aim of the charity is to create large-scale performances and push forward accessibility in the field through integrating access into the artistic language of its work. The charity wants to remove barriers and ensure disabled people and people on lower incomes can participate with the arts.The company also focuses on reaching communities through classes and workshops.

We are looking for anyone who has skills in any of the following:

Treasurer: A reputable background in finance, ideally including charity accounts.

Charity experience: Someone who has previously set up a charity or who understands how trustees work.

Fundraising: Experience in fundraising for a charity or other organisation.

Cultural development: Skills to engage with disadvantaged people and ensure the charity’s aims are met

Education: Experience in education, specifically to ensure we have up-to-date learning models for people with learning disabilities, people who are neurodivergent, and/or visually impaired.

Help rebuild PrefaceMorn’s activity and existing connections, as well as establish new ones, to enable the company to function as a charity again. We are seeking people who are genuinely invested in our mission and excited to join at a stage where the organisation is still taking shape. Trustees should feel comfortable navigating a structure that is not yet fully established and be willing to help define and refine how the charity will operate. We are looking for individuals who enjoy the process of building something from the ground up and who want to play an active role in shaping the direction, values, and long-term future of the organisation.

Desirable skills:

  • Someone who has previously been a trustee and has experience in one or more of the roles detailed above
  • Has a valid DBS

Essential skills:

  • Passionate about performance and art
  • Passionate about improving the lives of people with learning disabilities and other disabilities such as visual impairment
  • Fun, open-minded, patient

Job Responsibilities:

A trustee’s role is to ensure the governance and activities of the organisation align with its charitable aims and that the organisation is run for the benefit of the general public.

Time Commitment: Approximately 4 board meetings per year, plus occasional support for events and fundraising activity

Meetings: Remote or in person in London, with occasional in-person events

Nurture relationships with local authorities

Term: Maximum of 4 years, with the opportunity to re-join after a 1-year break.
