1st Hanwell (St Mary's) Scout Group operates a Cub section for young people aged 8–10½ years
Session currently operates from St Marys church hall at 6.30pm on a Monday evening term time. The group is part of the Ealing & Hanwell District, which boasts over 200 volunteers.
- No previous experience is necessary, as training and support are provided.
- A satisfactory criminal record check (CRB/DBS) is required.
- Completion of a Wood Badge (training for the role) is expected within three years of appointment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensuring the safety of all young people in accordance with the Scout Association's policies.
- Encouraging Cubs to earn badges and awards, including the Chief Scout's Award.
- Giving young people a voice in planning the programme.
- Building relationships with parents and managing the unit's resources.
What skills do I need?
Key Required Skills & Qualities
- Leadership & Teamwork: Ability to lead a team of adult volunteers and manage a group of up to 36 young people (aged 8–10½).
- Programme Planning: Skill in organizing, planning, and delivering an exciting, "Balanced Programme" of activities, games, and adventures (e.g., camping, hiking, cooking).
- Safety & Risk Assessment: Mandatory competency in risk-assessing activities to ensure the safety and well-being of young people, including adhering to Child Protection and Safety policies.
- Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work well with other adults and communicate effectively with children, parents, and the community.
- Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt leadership styles to the needs of different children.
- Commitment: Dedication to completing mandatory training, such as "Getting Started," which includes Safety, Safeguarding, and GDPR compliance within the first few months.

Details
1st Hanwell Cub sessions take place Monday Evening 6.30-7.30pm. 2 hours per week for planning Activities with 1st Hanwells team of cub leaders.
